LANSING – State Representative Marc Corriveau (D-Northville) today voted to increase funding for local schools to help ensure that our students will get the skills needed to be competitive in the 21st century global workforce.
"Ensuring that our schools have the resources they need to prepare our children to compete in the global workforce is essential to their success, and to our success as a state," Corriveau said. "Businesses want to locate in places that have highly skilled and educated workers, and it all starts in the classroom. The single most important investment we will ever make is in our children."
Corriveau voted to increase per-pupil funding for local schools to give teachers the tools necessary to give our kids the skills they will need to compete, keep class sizes low and ensure that all students have access to a top-notch education.
Under the plan approved today, Plymouth-Canton Community Schools will receive an additional $104 in per-pupil funding; Wayne-Westland Community School District will receive an additional $94 in per-pupil funding; and Northville Public Schools will receive an additional $56 in per-pupil funding. The plan now goes to the governor to be signed into law.
"When our kids go out to compete for jobs, they will be going up against people from all over the world," Corriveau said. "Ensuring that our kids have the best education possible will help them every step of the way. This plan will help move Michigan forward and make our state a powerhouse in the 21st century global economy."
