LANSING – State Representative Marc Corriveau (D-Northville) today voted for a plan to speed up construction projects at universities and community colleges across the state and create more than 8,000 jobs for Michigan workers. The plan now heads to the Governor for her signature.
"My No. 1 priority is to create more good-paying jobs now for our workers and get Michigan's economy back on track," Corriveau said. "This plan will get more of our workers back on the job and help our working families get back on their feet. Our workers are the backbone of our state – getting them back on the job is essential to getting Michigan back on track."
The plan passed by the House today will create 8,329 jobs by funding construction projects at universities and community colleges across the state. Projects range from expanding existing facilities to constructing new buildings, giving our schools the tools they need to prepare our students to succeed in the 21st century global economy.
The plan passed today is part of larger initiative to create more than 29,000 jobs across the state. The overall initiative included hundreds of construction projects at universities, colleges, airports, military facilities and state parks.
"Equipping our colleges and universities with the resources they need to build a well-educated workforce is key to moving Michigan forward," Corriveau said. "Businesses want to locate in areas with a highly skilled workforce, which means that we need strong schools to make Michigan competitive. This plan will help prepare our students as we work to make Michigan a leader in the global economy."
