LANSING – State Representative Marc Corriveau (D-Northville) on Tuesday was recognized by the Michigan Business and Professional Association (MBPA) and the Michigan Food and Beverage Association (MFBA) with the Distinguished Service Award for his efforts to help foster small business.
"I am deeply honored to be recognized as a friend of Michigan's small business community," Corriveau said. "It's more important than ever that we stand up for our businesses and workers, who are working hard to stay afloat in the midst of the current economic storm. I am committed to creating a better business climate for Michigan companies and getting our workers back on the job."
Corriveau received the award in Lansing on Tuesday during the 13th annual Capitol Lawn Day hosted by the MBPA and MFBA, affiliated business trade organizations representing thousands of members that employ more than 160,000 people throughout Michigan. The organizations hand out awards each year to policymakers and organization members that have shown ongoing support on behalf of small business, diversity issues and concerns involving food safety.
The MBPA and MFBA recognized Corriveau as this year's House recipient due to his efforts in health care reform. Earlier this month, Corriveau introduced legislation that would guarantee health care access to all Michigan citizens and expand coverage for Michigan children. The plan also would rein in the skyrocketing cost of health care by creating a catastrophic health care fund to protect the sickest individuals.
"The rising cost of health care is hurting our small businesses and forcing many hard-working families to go without the care they need," said Corriveau, Chair of the House Health Policy Committee. "We must take action to guarantee health care access for everyone and relieve the burden placed on Michigan's small businesses and families."
